My name is Clare, for the past 18 months I have been working with RAF Police, protection and search dogs, I have gained invaluable experience, enjoying every minute, however I am now back working with civilian dogs.
I currently share my life with 4 beautiful dogs, one is Daisy an 13 year old chocolate, tan and white Border Collie, Jacob a 7 year old black and tan Jack Russel terrier, Pancho a 3 year old tri colour Jack Russel terrier and we added Dawson, a 9 year old Chocolate Labrador to the family a few months ago. I am also extremely lucky to have the most amazing horse; Chunk, who was retired from Kings Troop due to behavioural problems at the age of 6 and he has been in my extended family for the past 14 years.
I began my work with animals early on in life concentrating my efforts on horses, even attending agricultural college to complete a Btec national diploma in equine management, receiving distinctions in practical equitation and receiving a merit, merit, distinction for the course as a whole. I have been training horses with many different issues using kindness, positive reinforcement and patience to build their trust rather than the usual forms of equine training.
I found this experience invaluable when it came to working with dogs as I am naturally calm and chilled in tricky situations and don't get frustrated!
I started to train dogs when I took on my once in a lifetime black Labrador; Matty and Daisy at the same time, they both came to me with different issues. Matty was extremely exuberant, boisterous and strong, needing to learn boundaries, recall and how not to pull me over to go play with possible new friends! Whereas Daisy was extremely fearful and showed aggression to both people and other dogs in the house and out on walks, needless to say it was a lot of work, but after that i was hooked!
I have now worked with hundreds of dogs from Shih Tzus to Newfoundlands, rescued cross breeds to show pedigrees, puppies to 10 year olds and I love every minute, this is truly my passion and it shows.
To extend my knowledge I have attended courses run by Kay Laurence a world renowned clicker trainer. I also learnt a vast amount from meeting Dr Nicholas Dodman, a top animal behaviourist at the Cummings veterinary school at Tufts university in Boston USA. Nik Starmer-Smith, a high flying lawyer in the world of dogs runs seminars for people in our profession, which i have attended, on all up to date laws that affect dog ownership in our country, I can also pass this knowledge onto my clients.
I am always trying to extend my knowledge completing many online courses to improve the care I can provide to all my other small animal clients.
